Jackie Chan’s The Shadow’s Edge Earns $77 Million in China

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Jackie Chan’s film The Shadow’s Edge grossed 182.9 million yuan ($25.4 million) in its second week of release, becoming the top-grossing film of the week in China. Directed by Larry Yang, the film has now surpassed $77.5 million at the box office and ranked as the third highest-grossing film worldwide this week.
The story follows Wong Tak Chung, a retired security expert played by Chan in Macau, who is called back to investigate a high-tech heist orchestrated by a figure known as the “Wolf King.” He teams up with a rookie officer, played by Zhang Zifeng, to take on the cunning Fu Lang Sheng, portrayed by Tony Leung Ka-fai, and his gang of criminals.
Shanghai Animation Studio’s Nobody added $19.2 million to its earnings, ceding the top spot to The Shadow’s Edge. Directed by Yu Shui, the animated film has grossed more than $175 million and ranked fourth among the world’s highest-grossing films of the week.
Dead to Rights continues its strong run, adding $11.3 million and holding the third spot. Directed by Shen Ao and written by Shen Ao, Zhang Ke, and Xu Luyang, the film has grossed over $381.4 million, making it the eighth highest-grossing film worldwide. The story centers on Ah Chang, a postman played by Liu Haoran, who pretends to be a photographer during the Japanese occupation to secretly protect Chinese soldiers and civilians.
Final Destination: Bloodlines debuted in China with $8.4 million, taking fourth place, while Universal’s The Bad Guys 2 has now crossed $16.5 million globally.
Overall, the Chinese box office grossed $78.3 million this week, marking a 17.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
